Deadly Waters 2020 - Current
Deadly Waters 2020 - Current is a multimedia-based series that centers around the aqueduct in Hesperia California. Due to continuous civil neglect and a lack of proper guard rails paired with dark lighting conditions, fourteen people have died. Surrounding the aqueduct are other social issues that continue to affect those living in Hesperia that could lead to similar effects as the aqueduct has.
Dehydrated Sorrow
Dehydrated Sorrow is a series that revolves around those four topics. The topics are sourced from the city of Hesperia’s website and are printed on 8.5x 11 office paper. The paper is then placed in developing trays with water and left in sight but out of mind for a month. As time progresses, the papers begin to discolor to a blueish purple with red tones taking over the black ink from the original print. The paper then dries fusing with the tray as the water eventually evaporates. That is left is altered documentation of these social issues that begin to represent the actions and intentions of the local officials.
These Waters Kill
These Waters Kill is a direct response to the deaths caused by the aqueduct. Printed on the front of the poster is the statement “These Waters Kill” which is layered on top of a cyanotype of the same metaphorical water that is being critiqued. The saying is a declaration to the public warning and reminding them of the recurring deaths that have and that will continue to happen until there is change. On the back of the poster are the names of the victims that have had aqueduct related deaths. These posters are continuously posted around the entrances of the aqueduct and surrounding areas to keep the memories of the victims alive and to also advocate for safety and better conditions surrounding the aqueduct.
